Antique centre find proves quite timely

NEWS

They say that what goes around, comes around. Well, as we all know a clock goes around too, and one particular long-case clock has come around enough times to be reunited with its original owner in very unusual circumstances after almost two-and-a-half decades.

And it’s a reunion that has everyone smiling at Commercial Road Antiques at 85 Commercial Road in Teneriffe. It all began 24 years ago when prominent Brisbane hotelier Neil McLucas sent a collection of memorabilia to auction, including his much-loved long case clock. It was a decision he regretted almost immediately.
But just recently the clock resurfaced at Commercial Road Antiques, its general provenance unknown to anybody save the dealer who had cared it for the past nine years. A staff member who new Neil, and knew he was looking to add a long case to his collection, rang him and sent him pictures of the clock in the centre.
Neil was so excited the pictures had not even finished downloading when he was on the phone, somewhere between laughter and tears to see his favourite “lady” from the past after all these years.
Neil and his old friend were reunited  and now once again reside very happily together. He’s pictured at right with the clock and the centre’s principal agent and proprietor Ian Thomson.
An excited Neil said: “It is hard to believe after all these years, but it is definitely the same clock but better condition than when I last saw it. I am so pleased to have it back”.
Ian adds: “We wonder how many other stories of magic have occurred in the 20 year history of the Antique Centre. If you have a yarn or a story please communicate with the centre as we celebrate 20 years at the same location in May.”
