Overall plan for Valley needed

A proposal urging Lord Mayor Campbell Newman and Premier Anna Bligh to develop one large entertainment management plan for Fortitude Valley has been given unanimous support at the latest meeting of the Valley Malls Advisory Committee.
The proposal, put forward by committee member and local Councillor David Hinchliffe, calls on Cr Newman and Premier Bligh to establish a comprehensive Valley entertainment management plan, treating Fortitude Valley as one, large venue.
"The Entertainment Management Plan must incorporate all three levels of government, as well as the local community and local businesses," Councillor Hinchliffe said.
"It should also take into account area security, public and private transport, pedestrian safety, lighting and cleaning.
"We hope to create the first comprehensive entertainment plan in Australia, for Australia's first official entertainment precinct," he said.
Councillor Hinchliffe said the decision was timely, with the annual Valley Fiesta having just concluded.
"The Valley Fiesta saw around 50,000 young people descending on the Valley for a weekend of music and festivities," he said.
The Valley Malls Advisory Committee also includes State Member for Brisbane Central Grace Grace and the Lord Mayor's Chairperson for Economic Development Cr Jane Prentice
